Transcript: “What Parenting Really Is”

“We have a beautiful theology of the physical world – we’re stewards of creation. We’re called to attend to it – not to use it for our purposes or to destroy it. And this is parenting. [Our children] are not there to make us feel good. They are given to us for us to attend to. They are not objects of our parenting. They’re a person and it’s a relationship we’re entering into. And, what’s really important is [that] we recognize that this act of love is going to change me. It’s not just ‘my kid needs to learn this’. Parenting is ‘I need to learn this’.”
