In Orthodoxy, we have such a beautiful theology of the physical world. We believe we are stewards of creation. As stewards, are called to attend to creation, not to use it for our purposes or to destroy it. And this is parenting. Children are given to us for us to attend to. And the beautiful thing is they are not objects of our parenting, they’re a person and it’s a relationship we’re entering in. And, what’s really important in parenting is – we recognize that this act of love is going to change me. It’s not just “my kid needs to learn this”. Actually, it’s “I need to learn this”. In this way, parenting, just like marriage, is salvific.
